Good surface preparation is a must, the surface receiving the decal
must be clean to ensure a good bond, newly painted surfaces
must have time to cure before the vinyl is applied. A warm, dust free environment were possible will ease application
There are two types of methods of applying vinyl, wet and dry, both are
determined by the size and complexity of the decal being applied
DRY : Usually best for smaller jobs, after removing the backing paper, lightly position the decal onto the substrate, then firmly squeegee the decal starting at the centre carefully working outwards, ensuring constant pressure across the entire area. Slowly remove the application tape, then re-squeegee taking care not to scratch either the vinyl or the substrate
WET : Larger vinyl jobs work better wet applied, this method eliminates bubbles and allows re-positioning several times. Make a warm solution of washing up liquid in water (about one teaspoon in a pint)
Apply the washing up/water solution onto the substrate with a clean sponge or garden spray bottle, its best to use plenty of the solution making sure there are no dry areas, remove the backing paper and place the decal on the substrate, then firmly squeegee from the centre forcing out the air/moisture.
Allow the decal to dry for a few minutes, then slowly peel off the application tape holding down the vinyl if necessary. Re-squeegee again over the entire decal to ensure there are no bubbles taking care not to scratch the vinyl
Where possible allow the vinyl to cure for 24 hours, avoid washing or cleaning.
